Buddy Island Play Free

For kids who like to build and fix things

Real skills start early

Someone wires the lights. Someone fixes the pipes. Someone builds the house and grows the food. On Buddy Island, kids get to try that kind of work in play. They learn how things work, follow safety steps, and earn island licenses in 14 trades.

Real skills start early. Measure, cut, wire, fix and farm in Trades Town, the Engineering Lab and Farm Ground. Four game screens: the Trades Town sign, the Engineering Lab doors, the Job Board, and a tractor planting a field.

Why hands-on skills matter

  • Hands-on work is good workThe people who build, wire, fix, and grow things keep our homes and towns running. Kids should see that early.
  • Kids learn by doingMeasuring, fixing, and testing teach care and patience. A mistake is a chance to try again.
  • Curious kids find their thingA kid who takes things apart to see how they work may love this kind of work one day. Play is a good place to start.

Where kids build and fix

Trades Town

Trades Town is home to the Woodshop and the Jobs Office. Kids learn trades in lessons all over the island, like the Engineering Lab, the Pit Garage, the Garden, and Farm Ground. Learn a trade in the lessons, earn the license, then take paying jobs on the Job Board.

Measure twice, cut once

The Woodshop has 20 projects, from coasters and a name sign to a birdhouse and a toy car. Every project starts with safety: goggles, ear covers, a clamp, hands away, and grown-up help. Then kids plan, measure, cut, drill, sand, put it together, and finish it. A wrong tap gives a hint and a try again, never a dead end. When it is done, they can sell it at the Craft Fair for pretend shells.

  • Safety first on every project
  • Measure to the 1/8 inch at the top level
  • Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master levels

Fix it, then start it up

In the Pit Garage, kids change tires and spark plugs. Then they build a 3D engine one part at a time, 22 parts in all. There is a Rookie mode and a Pro mode. Turn it on, and a cutaway view shows the pistons moving.

A shop class with 11 stations

The Engineering Lab sits on Shop Row. It has 11 stations: Electrical, Plumbing, Welding, HVAC, Carpentry and Fix-it, Simple Machines, Civil, Solar, Aerospace, Chemistry, and Code and AI. Each station has modes for ages 4 to 7, 8 to 11, and 12 and up, with 4 jobs per mode and badges to earn. The Carpentry station has a door to the Woodshop.

  • 11 stations, including Welding and Plumbing
  • Junior (4 to 7), Builder (8 to 11), Pro (12+)
  • 4 jobs per mode, plus badges

Take a job. Get paid.

The Job Board in Trades Town shows 3 open jobs, and new ones come up over time. Each job is a short fix-it puzzle at a spot on the island, like Lamp Is Out, Dry Sink, or Flat Tire. A job needs the right license. When it is done, it pays pretend shells and ends with a pay stub.

Safety first on the farm

Farm Ground starts with a safety lesson before the first drive: stay out of grain bins, keep clear of the PTO and moving parts, wear the seat belt, and stay away from augers. Then kids test the soil, plant, harvest, and haul grain to the elevator. Each step says why farmers do it. Costs and profit are in pretend shells.

A note for grown-ups

Buddy Island teaches the basics on a screen. It is a game, so the licenses are island licenses and the money is pretend shells. The safety steps are lessons. Real tools always need a grown-up.
